Black women in the U.S. are three times more likely to die from pregnancy or childbirth than White women—an alarming statistic that Jennie Joseph is determined to change. The Commonsense Childbirth founder has dedicated her entire life to elevating the ranks of Black midwives, training other health workers around the country in midwifery principles and even developing a national network of like-minded providers.
